Canada: Remote Full-Time Software Engineer Salary Insights

Sharing a border and cultural similarities with the US, Canada’s average software engineer salaries are significantly higher than those in both Latin America and Europe. However, they are still significantly lower than US salaries, 37% lower on average, or 31% lower with the 10% added employment cost.

The largest salary bump typically occurs between levels 3 (mid-level) and 4 (senior), at 19.5%. This differs from last year, where the biggest boost took place between levels 1 and 2, underscoring the emphasis on mid-senior engineers.

In an AI-forward world, technical and data-focused skills are the most critical in tech. Data-heavy and AI-oriented roles have higher earning potential than all other roles. While data scientist was the highest-paying role last year, this year, data engineer comes in first, followed by AI/ML engineer and DevOps engineer.
